Inspired by aquatic and coral formations, designer Ruth McDermott shows us her unique approach to lighting design. Using embossed textiles and fibre optics, McDermott is able to capture the colours and patterns from nature to use in her work.

Ignacio Germade talks exclusively to Curve about new developments in interface design at Motorola. Germade doesn’t see himself as a ‘traditional’ industrial designer.

With a background in film-making and architecture, his role is more as an ‘interaction’ designer. As design director at Motorola he approaches any user interface design problem to connect with users at an emotional level.

John Brown, design director of Design Resource in Sydney tells how competitive ‘bake-offs’ can be a rewarding way to win clients and big projects.
